By Our Correspondent

Delta Ijaw All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to appoint an Ijaw indegene as South-South Development Commission (SSDC) Managing-Director.

This is part of resolutions reached at the stakeholder’s high level meeting held on Wednesday in Warri, Delta, where members discussed issues affecting Nigerians of Ijaw extraction in Delta APC.

A copy of a statement of the resolution signed by Mr Timi Coleman on behalf of the stakeholders was made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

The stakeholders said appointing an Ijaw native to head the SSDC would compensate for what they described as Federal Government appointment deficit facing Ijaw speaking Nigerians.

“As stakeholders and members of the APC family, we have resolved to continually push for the appointment of an Ijaw person for the position of the Managing-Director, South-South Development Commission (SSDC).

“This is to equate the appointment deficits confronting Ijaw people.

“We are therefore appealing to President Tinubu to consider our appeal and heed to our request for an Ijaw person to occupy that position,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the stakeholders comprising Local Government party chairmen, women leaders, National Assembly members among others, also called for unity in APC Delta.

They said it would take a united APC to become victorious in the 2027 general elections.

“Delta Ijaw APC family doesn’t belong to any faction,” the statement said, adding that the stakeholders had unanimously endorsed Tinubu for second term as country’s president.

“Delta Ijaw APC leadership unanimously endorsed President Tinubu, Sen. Joel Onowakpo and Mr Alapala Ebitonmo for second tenure considering their performances within few years in office.

“The leadership also pass a vote of confidence on the APC structure led by its National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and the Delta APC Chairman, Chief Omeni Sobotie.

“For fairness and equity an Ijaw indigene should occupy the State Delta South Senatorial chairmanship positions in APC as well as the state women leader position.

“From inception, Ijaws have never occupied the aforementioned positions,” the statement said.

According to it, a minute silence was observed in honour of late Chiefs Edwin Clark and Christopher Porbeni at the meeting.(https://newsatlarge.ng)
