Commision reiterates commitment to improve communities affected by operations of Hydroelectric Dams

Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa, Managing Director Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, has reiterated the commission’s readiness to work with relevant agencies to improve the living standard of communities affected by operations of Hydroelectric Dams.
According to a statement issued by Mr Nura Wakili, Head, Press and Public Affairs of the commission on Tuesday in Abuja,Yelwa spoke when he led a delegation of the commisiion’s management to Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) PLC.
Yelwa while soliciting the support of the NBET in addressing grey areas affecting remittances of revenue due to the commission, said the organisation was a critical stakeholder in the commission’s drive to deliver on its mandate.
The statement quoted the Managing Director, NBET, Dr Nnaemeka Ewelukwa as saying that the organisation and the commission were sister agencies that would work together to deliver on their respective mandates.
He said NBET appreciates the responsibilities placed on the commission which he noted had direct bearing on the Hydroelectric Dams host communities.
He further said that the expectations of stakeholders from the commission and the enormity of its task, required that it accessed all funds due to it to enable it function properly.
Ewelukwa added that the NBET was consulting with other sister agencies and stakeholders to organise a consultative meeting to address all issues in the interest of all parties for the common good of Nigerians.
