Friends of Sen. Monday Okpebholo on Tuesday in Abuja, purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest the forthcoming Edo governorship election.

The Co-ordinator, Friends of Sen. Okpebholo, Chief Musa Ikhilor while speaking with newsmen at the APC national secretariat, said the decision to pick the forms for him was taken because he had the capability to lead the state.

He said Edo needed a governor that would advance the state and improve the well-being of its people.

“It is a remarkable honour to be here, we are friends of Sen. Okpebholo from different parts of the country, especially Edo, we are sons of Edo.

“Our decision to pick the forms for Okpebholo to contest Edo governorship election is born out of our interest to ensure the right leadership for the state.

“Because we are very much interested with what is happening in Edo, we decided to come together to find a suitable person who can give the people of the state a breath of fresh air.

“And we have looked round and found Monday Okpebholo as someone who is very capable and the most suitable to provide that breath of fresh air for Edo people.

“That is why as friends, we decided to take a bold step to purchase the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for him,” he said.

Ikhilor said as a senator, Okpebholo brought positive interventions to the state and gave the poor and the downtrodden hope to leave by improving on their well-being.

He added that as a senator, Okpebholo broke a 24 years jinx by being the first to do what had not been done in the whole of Edo Central Senatorial District.

According to him, the senator needed a bigger platform to be able do more for more people in the state.

“We are taking that spirit to the whole of Edo and that is why we decided to contribute and purchase the forms for him to contest the state’s governorship election,” he said.

He said the group had absolute confidence on Okpebholo’s capacity and capability to transform Edo and turn things around for good for its people.

“We have absolute believe that he is the right person for the job because he is an unusual character.

“He is not the regular career politician, he is going to be a game changer and the right person for the job,” he said.

Ikhilor added that the group was ready to stake whatever it would take, including money, time, and resources to support Okpebholo.

“So far, what we were able to raise is even more than the amount for the forms, others will go into mobilising for him,” the co-ordinator of the group of friends said.

He, however called on the party’s leadership to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants, saying there should be no anointed aspirant.

Newsatlarge reports that 29 aspirants are already in the race to contest Edo governorship election slated for Sept. 21.

The APC Expression of Interest and Nomination forms is being sold at the cost of #50,000,000 and the party has said that it will adopt direct primaries to select its candidate for the election.(https://newsatlarge.ng)
