Local Govt. poll: APC advises Kano Governor against breakdown of law

Agency Report
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State to desist from taking any action that could lead to breakdown of law and order.
Alh Abdullahi Abbas, Chairman of the party’s Kano State chapter gave the advice in a statement on Friday in Abuja while reacting to comments made by Gov. Yusuf at a rally in Kano metropolis on Thursday.
Abbas said that the comments made by the governor was incisive and unbecoming of someone who was supposed to be the chief security officer of the state.
The governor at the rally held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, told a crowd of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) supporters that nobody could stop the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) from conducting the Local Council poll.
This was after a Federal High Court on Tuesday, Oct. 22, restrained the KANSIEC from holding the council poll earlier slated for Oct. 26 after sacking its chairman, secretary and commissioners.
The court sitting in Kano, ruled that the KANSIEC chairman and other members of the commission were card-carrying members of the ruling NNPP, in Kano State.
It held that the defendants being card-carrying members of the NNPP and in partisan politics is contrary to Section 197 (1) (b) and Section 200 (1) (a) of the 1999 amended Constitution.
The court said they were, therefore not qualified to hold such positions in the state electoral body.
Abbas called on the Kano State Government to adhere to the directive of the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Simon Amobeda.
He noted that the call by Gov. Yusuf asking NNPP supporters to ignore the court directive was a clear case of an invitation to anarchy and lawlessness.
“The governor should simply respect the laws as a law-abiding citizen interested in the growth of our dear state. He should desist from any act that could throw the state into chaos.
“Inciting people to take the laws into their hands is not the hallmark of good leadership,” the APC Kano State chapter chairman said.
Recall that Justice Amobeda also restrained INEC from issuing voters’ register to KANSIEC.(https://newsatlarge.ng)
