NAN Senior Correspondent loses-mother
Ms Chinenye Offor, a correspondent with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has lost her mother, Lady Eunice Chintua Offor.
The family has announced Sept. 4 for her burial in Umuohu Ndume Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia.
Prince Chigozie Offor, a member of the family in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said the funeral service would be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
He said the interment would follow immediately at the deceased’s family compound in Umuohu Ndume Ibeku.
Born in January 1954 to the late Mr and Mrs Nzewata Onyenweama of Ohokobe Ndume in Umuahia North, the deceased died on May 18, 2026, at the age of 72.
She spent her formative years in Ghana with her late elder sister, where she had her primary education and part of her secondary education.
She returned to Lagos in 1971 and obtained her West African School Certificate in 1972 and later attended a Teachers Training College and Alvan Ikoku College of Education, where she obtained the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).
She subsequently earned a Bachelor of Education degree in English from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).
As a teacher, Lady Offor devoted much of her professional life to educating and mentoring young people, while also extending her service beyond the classroom to vulnerable members of her community.
According to the statement, she was particularly passionate about supporting women and the girl child, encouraging them to pursue education, develop skills and become self-reliant.
It said she was generous with her time, resources and skills and was always willing to assist people who needed support and encouragement.
Beyond teaching, the deceased was an entrepreneur who owned and managed businesses in tailoring, hairdressing and confectionery.
She was also known for making cakes for weddings, birthdays and other social events and was involved in event planning.
According to the family, she also undertook contracting services for various ministries, departments and agencies in Abia.
Her entrepreneurial activities, the statement said, provided another avenue through which she interacted with, and supported women seeking opportunities for economic independence.
In Christian service, Lady Offor was a member of the Order of Knights and Ladies of St. Christopher, Umuahia Diocese, and served as a Lay Reader in the Church.
The family described her as a woman of strong Christian faith who demonstrated generosity, compassion and commitment to service throughout her life.
She was married to the late Sir Jonah Offor (KSC) of Umuohu Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North.
She is survived by eight children, one adopted child, 12 grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, siblings and other relatives.
The family said the deceased would be remembered for her dedication to education, entrepreneurship, Christian service and support for vulnerable people, particularly women and the girl child.
The statement said her life was defined by service to God and humanity adding that she would be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.
The family invited relatives, friends, colleagues and well-wishers to join them in paying their final respects to the deceased during the funeral activities.(https://nannnews.ng)
