Pan-African movement set to celebrate distinguished African activist in Ghana

The Africans Rising, a Pan-African movement, says it is set to celebrate and honour African activists who had distinguished themselves on the continent with different categories of awards.
Ms Ann Lorna, Communications and Media Lead, Africans Rising, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja, adding that selected activist would be awarded at an event slated for Aug. 31, in Accra, Ghana.
She said the award launched in 2019 to showcase activism as a worthy cause in African society, was a token of appreciation to activists who had distinguished themselves.
She said it was also to encourage such activists to continue doing their works aimed at ensuring a better Africa for Africans.
Lorna said in an environment where civic space was shrinking and activism was increasingly riskier, the bold efforts of activists must not go unnoticed.
She noted that in spite of the enormous challenges activists go through with their families and communities, they braved through and had refused to relent.
“Nobody pays activists, except their passion and desire to push the boundaries in hopes of securing a prosperous Africa for all Africans.
“The award is therefore, a token of appreciation to all activists to encourage them to continue doing their works aimed at birthing a better Africa for all Africans.
“Debuting in 2022, the awards are presented in three categories: Activist of the Year, Movement of the Year, and Artistic Activist of the Year.
“The latter category was introduced during the third edition to provide a platform for showcasing the creative talents of African artists,” Lorna said.
She said for each category, two final nominees were chosen to represent North Africa, East Africa, Central Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa, and the diaspora.
She said over the years, Africans Rising had been on the frontline of change and had actively been involved in bringing together Africans and fighting for an Africa that was united, just, peaceful and dignified.
She said one of such ways was through the Africans Rising Activism Award. Launched in 2019 to showcase activism as a worthy cause in African society.
She added that the initiative was also to highlight the great work by African activists and movements that brought positive change in African communities.
Lorna said the initiative had received popular support that continued to expand since its inception.
“This year is the 6th anniversary and we want to make sure that all activists feel appreciated without necessarily creating competition.
“Voting for this year’s Activism Award is currently ongoing and will close on Aug. 5th 2024 at 11:59 P.M GMT.,” Lorna said.(https://newsatlarge.ng)
