The Ministry of Youth Development says it plans to partner with the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to sensitise youths on the importance of insurance.

The Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr Ayodele Olawande, said this while signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the commission in Abuja on Friday.

The signing of the MoU was led by the Executive Officer of NAICOM, Mr Olusegun Omosehin.

Olawande said that the partnership would also foster entrepreneurship and create employment opportunities, adding that the ministry is determined to work with every stakeholder to achieve result and better the lives of youths in Nigeria.

“With the theme ‘One Million Youths in Insurance’, the MoU we are about to sign will guide our efforts within the next one year.

“This will help us bring one million young people into the insurance sector,” he said.

According to him, the future of Nigeria rests on the shoulders of the youths who make up more than 60 per cent of the population.

Olawande said that insurance, which was critical to the economy of a growing nation like Nigeria, had been underutilised among this critical demography.

He said that using the power of digital technology, the ministry would educate, inspire and connect youths to careers and opportunities in insurance.

“Our mission with this project is to increase youth participation in insurance, create jobs, enhance financial inclusion and ensure that young people have peace of mind to pursue their dreams and entrepreneurship.,” Olawande said.

He said that through the digital platform, the Nigerian Youth Academy, which was announced by President Bola Tinubu, would host the programme.

He said that through the academy, the ministry would be able to deliver a large number of courses in insurance, enabling the youths to gain knowledge and also build networks with insurance companies.

Responding, Omosehin promised to ensure that the objective of the partnership was fulfilled.

He said that the partnership would provide safety and security to the insured, especially the youths.(https://newsatlarge.ng)
