The North-Central Renaissance Movement (NCRM), a political pressure group, says opening the door for independent candidates is best way address money politics in the country.

Prof. K’tso Nghargbu, the NCRM Chairman, said this at a news conference on Friday in Abuja.

He said the arrangement would also put to end to political god-fathers in the country’s polity.

“Having an independent candidate is one of the answers and solutions to check the excesses of political parties that are money and god-father drug.

“The NCRM is very much in support of the inclusion of independent candidacy in our Constitution because it will ensure the emergence of a popular candidate.

“And that will be one of our part ways to grow good governance in the country in the interest of all,” he said.

Nghargbu further said NCRM was monitoring the activities of the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC) to ensure it delivered on its mandate of ensuring better life for the people of the region.

He re-emphasised the need for the country’s major political parties to consider zoning their 2027 presidential ticket to the North-Central region.

“We have been agitating and lobbying the entire country, especially the political class and the electorate of this great country to take a look at the aspiration of the North-Central people. 2027 is topical.

“And on the front burner, it is evolving as a major political subject and as we come into the election year.

“We find it dutiful and out of responsibility towards our people, for national cohesion and harmony to again, appeal that political parties should consider giving their 2027 president ticket to the North- Central.

“This is important given the growing disaffection between Northern and Southern politicians in the country,” he said.

The NCRM chairman said the North-Central was the best solution towards achieving national unity.

“We have the best political human capital for presidential stewardship in 2027.

“We are therefore, appealing to the five other zones, and especially the major political parties in the country to consider giving their presidential tickets to people from the North-Central.

“We say this with all sense of stewardship without prejudice to national upliftment and development,” he said.  (https://newsatlarge.ng)
