Forum calls on international partners to intervene in El Fasher, Darfur atrocities
The Nasser International Forum, Sudan Chapter, has called on the United Nations,African Union, League of Arab States and all international partners to urgently intervene to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian access in the city of El Fasher, North Darfur.
Mr Huzaifa Hassan, Head of the forum made the call in a statement on Tuesday while decrying the alleged deliberate targeting of civilians, hospitals, and humanitarian facilities in Darfur.
He partially condemned the violations and atrocities committed against innocent civilians in the city of El Fasher following the recent attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
This, he said, constituted a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law and human rights principles,adding that the acts represented war crimes that must not go unpunished.
“We call on the United Nations, African Union, the League of Arab States and all international partners to urgently intervene to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian access.
“We also charge the bodies to ensure accountability for those responsible for these heinous crimes,” the forum’s head said.
He reiterated the importance of an immediate ceasefire in the country, the opening of humanitarian corridors, and the protection of displaced persons and vulnerable groups.
This, it said was especially with regards to women and children in line with international humanitarian obligations.
Hassan affirmed its unwavering solidarity to the people of Sudan and urged all national stakeholders to prioritise dialogue over violence.
He also urged stakeholders to work collectively toward a comprehensive, inclusive, and peaceful political solution that would restore stability, unity, and dignity to Sudan.
