Ensure Diaspora voting in 2027 – APC USA Youth Leader begs National Assembly
Ahead of 2027 general elections, Mr Oyakhilome Bello, United States of America All Progressives Congress (APC) National Youth Leader, has called for a constitutional amendment that will ensure Diaspora voting.
He made the call on Friday in Abuja while speaking with newsmen at the party’s national secretariat, saying Nigerians abroad were yearning to vote for the party in future elections.
According to him, many Nigerians in the diaspora are ready to carry out their civic responsibility in electing leaders at all levels during the country’s general elections.
He, therefore, called on the National Assembly and the Executive arm to do the needful by ensuring the amendment of the Electoral Act to guarantee diaspora voting.
Bello who is also a member of the forthcoming Sept. 21 Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, Diaspora Directorate noted that many members of the party in diaspora who wanted to vote for its candidates during 2023 general election were denied the opportunity.
He said amending the Electoral Act would enable such party members and Nigerians abroad generally to vote for candidates of their choice during elections, even from their country of residence.
“The truth is, APC has many members, supporters and sympathisers in America who wanted to vote for our party, but were denied the voting right during the last election.
“That is why, I am appealing along with some like minds to the National Assembly to consider the amendment of the Constitution and Electoral Act to accommodate diaspora voting.
“If this is done, Nigerians will be shocked by the numbers of our citizens in diaspora that are willing to vote and to vote for APC,” Bello said.
The youth leader commended President Bola Tinubu and the APC for the maturity and high sense of patriotism displayed during the nationwide protest organised by some youths in the country.
He appealed to Nigerains to be more patience with the Tinubu-led administration, assuring that the current hard time being experienced would soon be history.
He expressed optimism that the policies, programmes and projects being embarked upon by the Tinubu-led administration would bring succour to the masses, insisting that the worst was over.(https://newsatlarge.ng)
