Breaking: APC Sets February 26th for its National Convention
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday in Abuja, announced February 26th as the date to hold its National Convention.
Gov. Mai Mala Buni, National Chairman, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) made the announcement in his speech at the APC National Women’s Conference, 2022 holding Abuja.
Discussions on the date for the APC national convention had been in the front burner since President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2021, approved February for the conduct of the exercise.
Most critical stakeholders of the party, including Dr Salihu Lukman, Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) who recently resigned his appointment in the recent weeks, had mounted pressure on the Buni-led APC CECPC to announce a specific date for the exercise.
New National Working Committee (NWC) members are expected to be elected at the convention to manage the party’s affairs which was currently being managed by the Buni-led CECPC.
Newsatlarge reports that the APC National Women’s Conference, 2022 which was the first of its kind, is to discuss gender inclusiveness in politics.
The conference with the theme: “One Voice Uniting for Progress”, is also to discuss greater role for women in governance and brainstorm on ways to strengthen women political rights.
The conference organised by the APC through Mrs Stella Okotete, the women representative in the party’s CECPC is being attended by more than 1,000 women drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The organisers of the conference are optimistic that it would address barriers to women participation in the political process under democratic systems as well as evolve strategies for getting women fully involved.
More than 200 leaders from the three tiers of government in the country and some prominent business women and captains of industries are attending the conference.
Presentations from invited guest had been focused on inspiring and propelling women to greater successful forays into politics, governance and leadership roles in businesses.(https://Newsatlarge.ng)
