Abuja, Sept. 15,2021, Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) planned National Convention expected to hold before the end of the year, former Borno Governor, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff has continued consulting with the party’s critical stakeholders to sell his candidacy.
Sheriff, a frontline aspirant for the the office of the APC national chairmanship who recently met with Gov. Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, said his was in the race to enthrone a new APC.
His visit to the Jigawa governor was in continuation of his consultation with APC bigwigs in his bid to emerge as its next national chairman at the forthcoming convention.
SAS as he is fondly called, had said he would ensure party supremacy and development if he was elected as the next APC national chairman.
The former Borno governor had been going the whole hog to woo party members to support his bid for the national chairmanship of the APC.
Sheriff, a founding member of the APC, had been an active politician even during the dictatorial military regime of General Sani Abacha.
Some APC stakeholders believe that the former Borno governor had the capacity to lead the APC, especially with his vast political network, knowledge and experience of party administration.
Elected twice as governor of Borno, the APC stalwart was earlier elected senator on the platforms of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP).
Besides Modu Sheriff, other APC national chairmanship aspirants include; former Gombe Governor, Sen. Danjuma Goje, former Zamafara Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, former Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, former Benue state governor, George Akume and Mal. Isa Yuguda, former Bauch state governor.
Others are former Deputy National Chairman of the defunct (Congress for progressive Change (CPC), Salihu Mustapha, Hon. Sunny Monidafe and Senator Sani Musa.
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni is the current chairman of the APC Caretaker and Extral-ordinary Convention Planning Committee(CECPC).
The committee which came into being after the dissolution of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), is saddled with the responsibility to organise a national convention to elect national officials for the party.
