The All Progressives Congress (APC) Integrity Group has said that the 12 million bank votes of late President Muhammadu Buhari can only be retained and increased in the APC by Sen. Tanko Al-Makura.
The group said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, while appealing that Al-Makura, a former Nassarawa State Governor be considered as APC’s next ntional chairman.
The statement was signed by the group’s Chairman, Malam Dawu Mohammed and Secretary, Chisom Nwakama.
The Group also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure proper inclusion of the bloc of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) into APC’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The CPC was one of the political parties that merged in 2013 to form the APC.
“The much talked about 12 million votes bank of late President Buhari can only be retained and increased in the APC by someone like Al-Makura who was a confidant of the late president,” the group said.
It noted that with the birth of
African Democratic Congress (ADC) the time to stop experimenting on APC national leadership had come.
According to the group, Al-Makura is next in rank from the defunct CPC after the late former President Buhari as he was the only sitting governor of CPC during the merger.
The group said for the APC to be ahead of the coalition, it needed a national chairman from the North Central and someone who had the eyes of the governors and the president.
It added that the former governor was a team player who had the capacity to work towards ensuring electoral victory for the APC come 2027.
“As we look forward to the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC this week, we expect a far reaching decision to improve the party to be made.
“Our party at this time is in dire need of an astute leader, giving the gang up of political actors ahead of 2027.
“With all sense of honesty and responsibility, we are calling on President Tinubu with other leaders of the party to consider returning its national chairmanship to the North Central.
“We also believe that the CPC bloc in the party should be accommodated at the leadership levels,” the group said.
It expressed optimism that Al-Makura’s credentials as a former governor and a team player, qualified him to lead the APC at this auspicious time.
It noted that the advent of a coalition and the ADC, called for a leader that could unify the APC for greater electoral victory.
It added that this was therefore, not a time to experiment on who should lead the party, but a time to be more accurate.(https://newsatlarge.ng)
